High School Career: The talented quarterback was an all-district and second-team all-area selection. Stephens threw for 2,602 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior. He set the school passing records for single-game passing yards (440), touchdown passes (five), attempts (60), completions (36) and total touchdowns (six). Stephens also played in the annual Oil Bowl All-Star game.
College: Stephens signed with Tennessee and redshirted in 2006. He did not play in the 2007 season. Now a sophomore, Stephens completed the spring season running the second team behind junior Jonathan Crompton, who served as the backup in 2007. Stephens’ recruitment was strange, because he originally committed to Ole Miss before switching to Tennessee.
