Marcus Baseball Team to Offer Camps

The Marcus baseball program will be holding its annual summer baseball camps throughout June.

The dates for the camps are as follows:

June 9-12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. is for sixth through ninth grades.

June 16-20, from 9 a.m. to noon is for first through fifth grades.

June 16-20, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. is for sixth through ninth grades.

Four Jaguars Players Headed to Olathe

Four Flower Mound High School football players are headed to Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan., next year to play for the Pioneers.

The players are Mark Henderson, Nicholas Rampone, C.J. Boyd and Tyler Pritchard.

All four boys received some kind of scholarship.

"I’m really excited about it," Rampone said. "It will make it an easier transition with all the guys there."

Henderson, Rampone, Boyd and Pritchard helped lead the Jaguars to a 5-2 record in District 6-5A and a playoff berth last year.

Texans Represented Well in District Honors

The Northwest softball team had a strong showing in district honors this season, as eight of its players were recognized for their efforts.

Pitcher Erinn Jayjohn was named the District 5-5A Most Valuable Player, while second baseman Lauren Bixler earned Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Third baseman AJ Deal and first baseman Taylor Namey were both named first-team all-district, and Natalie Nimmo and Bailee Mauldin picked up second-team honors.

Nicole Richardson and Christin Robertson were both selected as honorable mentions.

The Texans advanced to the regional quarterfinals this season.

Roanoke Martial Arts Studio Fairs Well at Regional Contest

Chang Lee’s Martial Arts Center in Roanoke sent 16 of its students to compete in the Southwest Regional Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Taekwondo Qualifier last Saturday, and all of them are moving on.

According to a news release, "All 16 students qualified to participate at the 2008 AAU Taekwondo National Championships to be held in Madison, Wis., June 30-July 5."

The students who qualified to advance to the national championships include Sam Stoyanoff, PJ Veimau, Kierra Smith, Sydney Stoyanoff, Juanita Green, David Green, Keegan Ward, Sterling Urrutia, Rachel Smith, Joseph Veimau, Jacob Suchors, Curtis Thomas, Austin, Urrutia, Tyler McCullough, Ian Kitzman and Nancy McCann.
