When I was told that this was going to be the "Back-to-School" issue, I thought it was one week too early.
Dear Editor,
So, it’s now August ... not my favorite month.
Marsha Gavitt, director of the Voters United to Preserve Flower Mound, said during the public participation section of the July 21 Flower Mound Town Council meeting that citizens are drifting from SMARTGrowth, Master Plan and protective ordinances. The subject of her statement was incorrect in a July 25 article, "Heated Topics." In addition, the article misrepresented statements by Gavitt and Rebecca Belcher, president of Flower Mound Citizens Against Urban Drilling. Gavitt advised against "inappropriate interactions" with members of the town’s Oil and Gas Board of Appeals before they vote. Belcher said it is not the community’s responsibility to "ensure profits for developers who make poor business decisions."
The Flower Mound Town Council should support the decision of the Oil and Gas Board of Appeals, rendered on June 18, to deny Red Oak Gas Company’s variance requests.
Is it just me, or did the month of July pass by at the speed of light?
Dear Editor,

FM Emergency Services Volunteer Programs Showcased
The Flower Mound Police Department [FMPD] hosted an event last week to showcase the capabilities of the community’s Citizen Patrol Group [CPG] and Community Emergency Response Team [CERT], along with the top-of-the-line equipment they use.
Dear Editor:
I am a non-smoker; I quit January 1, 1969. However, that doesn’t mean that I want the State of Texas to tell adult citizens whether and where they can smoke.
