GLCT Closes Season in 'Oklahoma!’

The Greater Lewisville Community Theatre [GLCT] will present Oklahoma! as the final show in its Silver Anniversary season.

This musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II runs from July 11 through August 3.

Based on the book Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs, Oklahoma! was the first American musical where songs and dances grew out of the characters’ emotions, rather than just the story or the need for singing and dancing. It was also the first musical with a "rural" theme and the first to have its score recorded.

This season, GLCT has been reprising some of its most popular shows from its 25 years. It first presented Oklahoma! to Lewisville audiences outdoors at the Vista Ridge Amphitheatre in 1992.

One of the original cast members, Les Snyder, who portrayed the role of the evil Jud Fry, will be in the production as Ado Annie’s love interest, the "exotic" Persian peddler Ali Hakim.

GLCT is at 160 W. Main St. in Old Town Lewisville. The show runs July 11 to Aug. 3 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
