Meet Candidate Al Filidoro

“I was grateful the council appointed me after interviewing eight candidates,” Filidoro said. “I’ve worked hard to get acclimated in this position and I want to continue my work.”
Town leaders appointed Filidoro on Oct. 18, 2007 to replace elected Place 2 Council member Paul Stone who resigned earlier that month.
In May, Flower Mound voters will elect Flower Mound Mayor, Place 2 and Place 4 Town Council members. To date, Planning & Zoning Commissioner Steve Dixon has been the only other Place 2 candidate to file for the position. [See the Feb. 22 issue of The Messenger.]
In an interview, Filidoro said he has made it a priority as a councilmember to visit all town departments
“When a citizen asks me about an issue or a department in town, I want to look them in the eye and let them know that I know and understand the issues of that department and how to respond to their questions,” he said. “Also sitting on the council, a majority of our work involves every department and I want that familiarity that has and will allow me to make the best decision possible.”
One of Filidoro’s goals is to keep the community safe.
“My first priority is ensuring that Flower Mound continues to be one of the safest places to live in the United States,” he said. “I plan to do that by tirelessly working to ensure our police and fire departments have the manpower and equipment they need to keep up their high standards.”
As part of his dedication to keeping Flower Mound safe, Filidoro presented the town’s recently approved ban on hand-held cell phones and text messaging in school zones. He is also interested in attracting more quality businesses and quality medical care to Flower Mound, on which he’s worked since serving on Flower Mound’s Planning & Zoning Commission.
Creation of a Central Business District, a component of The River Walk at Central Park, is an additional interest of Filidoro.
“This is a highly complex mixed-use development that encompasses medical, commercial, retail and residential in one district,” he said. “There are a lot of moving parts that have to be worked out for this to happen. One key element that excites me is the developer’s promise of a high quality medical center.”
Filidoro’s motivation to bring quality medical care to the town comes from his late wife, Janet, who died last year from breast cancer.
