Flower Mound PALS Meeting: Festival Dates Set

Staff Writer

Norma Kruger was named as chairman and John Thomas was selected vice chairman at the Parks, Arts and Library Services [PALS] meeting on Oct. 9.

Recreation Supervisor Chuck Jennings announced the two-day 2009 Wild About Flower Mound Festival’s dates will be Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, at Bakersfield Park.

He said attractions may include: local and regional entertainment; a business expo; an artist village; a kid’s zone; local and regional vendors; and car show.

Jennings added that sponsorship letters will be mailed with a Dec. 31 participation deadline.

Town Council members will consider the sale and consumption of alcohol during the event on its Nov. 3 meeting agenda.

PALS members also discussed regulating tobacco use at town parks and sports facilities. While they were in favor of placing restrictions at sporting facilities, they disagreed on restrictions in parks and trails.

Parks and Recreation Director Jack Jones said the Town Council members would be discussing a potential smoking ordinance at their Oct.16 work session. He added that he would convey the PALS board members comments to the Town Council members.

Resident Connie Vickers presented a proposal to document the history of Flower Mound and creating a historical commission, a museum in Flower Mound and interviewing long-time Flower Mound residents for a video documentary. PALS members were enthusiastic and offered to provide future guidance.

The Undeveloped Park Land Subcommittee has also scheduled a public hearing for Oct. 23 to discuss the proposed conceptual master plan for Post Oak Park and a one-acre tract of parkland located at 5101 Wichita Trail.
