HV P&Z Commissioners, DKH Academy Design Boring

Highland Village Planning and Zoning Commissioners listened to plans Tuesday on the expansion of DKH Academy located on Briarhill Drive.
Community Development Manager Sue Thompson said cutting down traffic congestion for people not using the DKH Academy was the city’s main goal.
JM Design architect Peter Brown and Crannell, Crannell and Martin Engineering Vice President Robert Valenzuela presented new design plans for DKH Academy. Valenzuela said constructing a new driveway would allow drivers dropping off students to enter one driveway and exit from another to keep a continuous flow of traffic.
"People coming from the south would have to turn left, across traffic to enter the facility," Commissioner Dick Bryant said. "I think the entrance and exit should be reversed to solve that problem."
Commissioner Richard Rega said the expansion of DKH Academy would be positive for the community.
"I think the look of the building is extraordinarily boring," Bryant said.
"I think the owners wanted the building to look more like a house rather than a business," Brown said. "We are adding more materials like stone [accents] and metal roofing to add interest." Brown said.
"We all agree something needs to be done in that area and will give the proposal some real consideration," Rega said.
